Who We Help

The Alfred-Washburn Center was originally open in August 2001 to serve the homeless who ride the rails in and out of Pensacola. In the first two years the Center was opened, we served fifteen to thirty homeless each day. In the past two years this number has significantly increased to over 100 each day.

The homeless we serve includes those who live on the streets or in campsites in the woods, those who live in homes without electricity or water, and those who double up with relatives because they cannot afford to rent their own homes.

With the current downturn in the economy we are also serving families and individuals who have recently lost their jobs or had their work hours significantly reduced and are having difficulty paying their bills.
